Viral Hit webtoon/manhwa review

"Viral Hit", also known as "How to Fight", is a South Korean manhwa created by Taejun Pak and illustrated by Kim Junghyun. Serialized since November 2019 on Naver Webtoon, it has become a global hit, garnering millions of views with its unique blend of underdog story and fighting action.

The story revolves around a scrawny high school student, Hobin Yoo, who becomes an unlikely star in a NewTube channel about fighting after following advice from a mysterious chicken man. Hobin Yoo is an unlikely protagonist, a boy who is often bullied and abused. He is small, short, weak and skinny. He is anything but a fighter. owever, his life takes an unexpected turn when he stumbles upon a mysterious NewTube channel. This channel, run by a figure known only as the "Chicken Man," offers unconventional yet effective fighting techniques.

Desperate to improve his situation, Hobin diligently follows the Chicken Man's weird and unusual advice. Through training and the application of Chicken Man's methods, Hobin begins to see a transformation in his fighting ability. This new ability paves the way for him to create his own NewTube channel, documenting his journey from bullied victim to skilled fighter.

"Viral Hit" explores themes of self-improvement, overcoming adversity, and the power of dedication. Hobin's journey is not just about physical strength; it's a testament to the human spirit's ability to rise above limitations. The manhwa also delves into the world of online content creation, exploring the challenges and opportunities that come with achieving viral fame.

For fans of the popular manhwa "Lookism," "Viral Hit" offers a thrilling expansion of the established universe. While the stories don't overlap completely, subtle connections hint at a larger world with its own set of rules and power dynamics.

Personally, I found "Viral Hit" to be wonderful. It was captivating, and I wanted to keep reading. From the action to the character development, it is a shame to miss out on it. It is also a great start for anyone looking to get into reading Manhwa or Webtoons. These are not just my words, but online users also recommend this manhwa.

"if you liked when Lookism turned into a full-on martial arts comic, you should like most of Park Taejoon's other works, Viral Hit, also known as How To Fight is one of those works, it's an action manhwa with a really interesting plot."

"The artwork in "Viral Hit" is eye-catching, with vibrant colors and dynamic panel layouts that keep the story flowing smoothly. The character designs are also distinct, making it easy to tell the characters apart and recognize them"

However, some point out the negatives too.

"If you've ever wanted to see kids getting bullied for Youtube clicks then this is your story. All the characters in this are absolute miserable scum. MC is a pathetic loser beyond anything you can imagine. MC cries walking down the street. MC cries buying new clothes. MC cries talking to girls. I've never seen anything like this before. At first I thought this was some kind of underdog story, but the MC is so cringe and unlikable you can't root for him. They took every bulling trope and every pathetic MC trope and just mashed them into one horrible mess of a comic."

Although personally I did not find this to be an issue, I can see how it may be one for others. At the start Hobin Yoo is hard to like. His actions can be frustrating and immature at times, enough to make the reader cringe. But that is also what I appreciate, after all, he is just a high schooler! It portrays him to be natural and have flaws, and as he grows, so do his decisions. To see him make better decisions and stop cringing at them are a reward for sticking to the webtoon.

Overall, "Viral Hit" is a must read for new readers and a great manhwa! 9/10!
