Mercenary Enrollment webtoon/manhwa review

"Mercenary Enrollment" is a South Korean manhwa that blends action packed thrills with the sad reality for veterans in returning to civilian life. The story follows Yu Ijin, a young man who has known nothing but the harsh realities of war since childhood. Orphaned at a young age, Ijin was forced to survive on the unforgiving battlefields as a mercenary.

Years of conflict have honed Ijin into a formidable fighter, possessing exceptional combat skills and a stoic demeanor. However, his world takes an unexpected turn when he receives a life-altering message. News arrives that his long-lost sister is alive and well, living in South Korea.

Driven by a newfound purpose, Ijin makes the drastic transition from war-torn landscapes to the unfamiliar world of high school in South Korea. "Mercenary Enrollment" goes into the challenges Ijin faces as he attempts to integrate into a normal life. The manhwa explores the themes of societal reintegration, the lingering effects of trauma, and the complexities of forging connections in a peaceful setting.

Watching Ijin grapple with the stark differences between his past and present as he must navigate the often-trivial social dynamics of high school while harboring the skills and experiences of a seasoned mercenary are extraordinary to see.

Despite his formidable strength, Ijin desires to live a normal life alongside his sister. However, his unique past and exceptional abilities often attract unwanted attention. The manhwa keeps you on the edge of your seat as Ijin encounters threats and challenges that push his skills to the limit, even within the seemingly ordinary world of high school. This is a great manhwa to read for all those wishing for a story that presents the alternate reality of a life of military service. It offers an exciting blend of action and slice-of-life elements.

It's a story about a young man yearning for normalcy while grappling with the legacy of his past, this is what I personally love most about it. However, it can grow repetitive and there are many stories similar to it with a buffed main character who is overpowered.

Here is what others had to say:

"It's good, but dull and generic"

"Reading Mercenary enrollment feels like watching a muted robot beat the living shit out of everyone. Sure, u get a lot of satisfaction out of him beating everyone, but thats it."

"The plot is serviceable but the execution of the art, dialogue, hype, action and story beats are incredible"

The reviews on this manhwa is mixed, but personally, this is a great manhwa for beginners to start off with, but for experienced readers, this may be a little repetitive. Overall, this is a 7/10!
