Second life of a Gangster webtoon/manhwa review

"Second Life of a Gangster" is a South Korean webtoon that goes beyond the typical action genre. It shows a compelling narrative of redemption, self-improvement, and the unexpected opportunities that life can offer. Oh Joong Seok, the protagonist, holds the weight of a life spent on the wrong side of the law. Having clawed his way to the top of a criminal organization, Joong Seok finds himself filled with regret and a yearning for a different path.

However, fate offers him a chance to rewrite his story in a way he never expected. Through a bizarre twist of circumstance, Joong Seok finds himself reborn into his own younger body, travelling back in time to his high school years. This dramatic shift grants him a clean slate, an opportunity to shed the burden of his past and embrace a life built on virtue.

The road to redemption, however, is far from smooth. Joong Seok carries the memories and experiences of his previous life, constantly forcing him to remember the darkness he once inhabited and forced on others. Learning to navigate youth while wrestling with a hardened past creates a unique set of challenges for our protagonist.

I found it to be a great story of redemption and a longing for change. It goes into the themes of a second chances and the transformative power of living a life guided by strong morals. Joong Seok sheds his gangster persona and embraces a path of virtue, something that would have been unexpected of someone like him in a traditional way. This is also what I love about the webtoon, it seeks to break traditional views and change ideals. The story showcases his growth, growth that is worth witnessing. The webtoon is heartwarming and warm, something which I did not expect, but came as a sweet surprise in this action packed story.
